The flamethrower (along with the Molotov and Pipe bomb) is one of the only weapons in the game that has any meaningful effect on the Alien. While it will not damage or kill the creature, a blast of fire from the flamethrower is usually enough to make it retreat into the station’s ventilation system.

Flamethrower – You get this in the Marshal’s office after you play as a prisoner. This will keep the Alien off your back if it sees you. Fuel may seem limited but I have yet to run out unless I intentionally hold the trigger for way to long. You get this again on your way to the Central Reactor.
